The Philosophy of the Inspired Learning Model™
The Inspired Learning Model™ is predicated on the belief that all students are capable, innately wise and have direct access to their own best answers.
As educators we primarily FACILITATE learning. More precisely, we facilitate a remembering environment. Foundational to the creation and honoring of this space is our experience that every human being has within them an innate wisdom that contains:
- Who they are.
- What they are here to learn.
- What they are to be a witness to and a voice of.
- What gifts and talents they are the stewards of and how they are to be shared.
We focus on students “learning,” not on teachers “teaching.” We speak of facilitating learning, not teaching students -- as facilitators we allow the student’s innate wisdom to be re-awakened and be expressed.
Other models put forth the belief that we are filled with knowledge by our teachers and by the books we study. So in turn we ‘pass it on’ to our students. In this model we are reversing our perception of our role in the learning process. We hold that all of us as learners are re-awakening to what we innately know and that it is our teachers who provide the focus on that particular subject matter, encouragement along the way and reinforcement when we get it right or show signs of beginning to master the subject matter.
Have you ever experienced going beyond your teacher or having a student go beyond your grasp of what you are teaching? How do you explain this in the old teaching paradigm?
The Inspired Learning Model™ holds that every person has this capability in some subject matter. It is waiting to be re-discovered, re-ignited and expressed.
The Inspired Learning Model™
The Inspired Learning Model™ is made up of 7 elements:
- The Facilitator – Expert and master of the Subject Matter and the creator of a safe space for learning.
- The Subject Matter - Each component or competency of the Subject Matter is articulated in writing, demonstrated and offered in a manner where the student can have a direct experience.
- The Physical Environment – a comfortable and safe area where learning takes place.
- The Inspired Learner – Those who are attracted to and take responsibility for the learning experience.
- The Standards of Presence - Guidelines that help to co-create a safe, accepting environment where any form of criticism, even “constructive-criticism,” has no place.
- The Integration – With repetition, positivity and celebratory energy any component or competency that is demonstrated by a student of the Subject Matter is acknowledged.
- The Inspiration – The magic, the unexplained, the spark of genius, for some the Divine! This element allows openness for Inspiration to enter the learning environment.
